So obviously unless you’ve been in a remote area without any news or human contact available, you are aware of the state of the world. Travel is almost impossible in some areas and when it will be, may be extremely challenging to do so. For someone who likes to go away every two to three months (me, I’m someone), this poses some disappointment and maybe even some anxiety, especially if you use travel as a way to decompress. “What are you going to do, how are you going to manage” those around you may ask. For those who ask me, I’ll be telling them, IMA DO SOMETHING since what’s going on right now is not in my control. What that something is, I’m working on a few ideas and I thought I’d share them with you, in case you find yourself in the same boat (well not literally since you know…well you know).
Search for Something Local
As things begin to slowly open up here in Alberta, Canada, I’m going to keep my eyes open for businesses or events that may go on while physically distancing. Instead of a week, maybe I take four days off and make a staycay out of it. Perhaps there may be a pop up drive in theatre, an outdoor concert (for a small number of people) or a few outdoor markets. If the days off happen to land on a weekend, maybe plan a backyard barbeque and invite a few friends or family who happen to be free.
Day Tripping
If you live in an area that has towns, monuments or parks to explore, map a couple to explore over the period of a few days or maybe a couple of weekends per month.
There are a couple ghost towns in my province, I may take a day to explore at least three of them (in the light of day okkkkay – I’m not tryna risk anything LOL).
Another idea is to check out say 3-4 small towns on one route, and Google what are the best stores or restaurants there. Create a hit list and see for yourself what these are all about.
On the Road Again
Well maybe not again, maybe for the first time in a while. Depending on where you live, you may only be allowed to travel within your state or province. Have you discovered all the attractions, outdoor activities, museums, natural wonders, historical sites there?
Create a list of at least three places you haven’t been before and research what things you are able to see or do. Maybe there’s two places you can visit over a week period and explore what’s in your own backyard. I’ve been looking at a few different places I’ve heard about, but haven’t visited before. I usually start pinning areas of interest or things to do on my Google Maps so when the time comes to decide, I already have a loose agenda for the trip.
Alternately, you could have a few places you absolutely love, and rather would go back to spend your days spread out over a few weeks. There’s something that can be said about familiarity. Also, you shouldn’t have to do any research since you probably already know exactly what you want to do when you arrive at those favourite spots of yours.
So that’s what I’m thinking about doing over these next few months while we wait and see how things roll out. I have quite a few vacation days and I am still holding out hope that I may get to hit the air towards the end of the year. I may just hold a few back in the event things turn around by then. If not, I can always plan a much longer Christmas holiday season.
I’d love to hear what experiences or activities you’ve been tossing around as options OR if you’ve already been on few. One thing I know more than ever now, is in times of uncertainty or chaos, one thing we can count on is the connection that exists when we share and engage together.
Blessings and lots of love to you and your tribe.
